Flowers and Essences

Using Flowers to enhance Chakra energy flow

"...I feel very strongly there is an intelligence at work in every flower, in every blade of grass, in every cell of my body.” ~ Eckart Tolle

The art of using flower remedies is thought to date back thousands of years, although they did not enjoy a revival until the 1930's, when a British doctor and bacteriologist began to explore the healing potential of flowers.  His name is Dr. Edward Bach.  He is known throughout the world for having discovered 38 flower remedies later named Bach Flower Remedies.  Dr. Back placed the flowers in a bowl of water and left them in the sun for a few hours.  The water became charged with the essence of the flower.  The remedies could be used in any combination for healing emotional problems.

We now know that flower remedies (essences)  balance the energy centers to bring about physical, emotional and spiritual well being.  Flower remedies work energetically and vibrate at a very high rate, so they quickly have a positive impact on our auras.  The emotion you want to treat often falls away - as though it has been washed away, when you take the essence or rub it on our skin.  Spraying the essence close to your body or in specific areas also helps to release negativity to experience energetic harmony.

Flowers are uplifting gifts from nature to help us in times of need and can help heal emotional issues and release unhealthy habits.  Which is the right flower for you?  Trust your intuition as most of us are drawn to specific flowers and colors that help us release stress and negativity. You may feel comfortable selecting a flower with blooms in the color of a specific chakra i.e. red flowers, orange, yellow, blue, etc.

As you walk through a garden or floral shop, which flowers usually catch your eye? The red roses? The white lilies? The soft lavender? With their simple presence, flowers have a mystical way of raising our spirits as well as the vibrational energy of any room. Intuitively, we are attracted to flowers that most closely match our desired state of being.  Each flower has a unique color, essence and vibration that corresponds with one or more of the seven chakras in the body.  Meditating upon a particular flower, therefore, cam help you open and align any chakras that may need healing

If you are feeling a block in your emotions, plant or buy some beautiful flowers that match the vibration of the corresponding chakra. Place the flowers in a pot or vase where you can see them often. You can also use a photo or painting of that flower.  As you gaze upon the flower, ponder the qualities you’d like to develop. For example, if you’re lacking in willpower, you may have solar plexus (yellow) chakra blockages. Bring in the beautiful black-eyed Susan and focus on the quality of mental strength.

Making a flower essence

What are Flower Essences?

Picture
Flower essences are the vibrational message of a flower transmitted to water by solarization, and the vibrational resonance of the flower is memorized by the water.

Materials Needed:

A small glass bowl, which should be used uniquely for essence making.
  • Fresh spring, or mountain stream, water collected in a glass container if possible. It is great if you can get fresh, wild water that comes from near to where the flowers you are using grow. This is not always possible. So either collect spring water from somewhere else, or if all else fails, buy spring water in a bottle. I do not advise using tap water, as it will be full of fluoride etc.
  • A funnel (a glass one if possible)
  • A dark glass bottle (125ml is a good size).
  • Organic grain alcohol (at least 40%, such as vodka or brandy).
  • Vegetable glycerin (if applying to skin or spraying around home)

How to:

Before picking the flowers, use your intuition to feel whether or not you have their permission. Flower essences are made on sunny days, as the sun’s rays shining through the flowers, help transmit the message to the water. This is known as solarization.

  • Fill the bowl with spring water and put it in the sun, preferably among the flowers the essence is being made from. It is the vibrational imprint of the flowers that is going to be memorized by the water, not the vibrational imprint of the essence maker. In order to put the least possible of one’s own energy into the essence, consciously distance yourself from the action. By this, I mean, when collecting the flowers imagine you are just an instrument, try and remain neutral.
  • Gently drop the flowers onto the surface of the water. This is not an infusion so they do not need to be immersed. Cover the surface of the water with flowers.
  • Leave in the sun for at least two and not more than four hours where there is no risk of shadows falling on the bowl.
  • Come back to the bowl, and carefully remove the flowers from the bowl. Be careful to not touch the petals.  Return the flower to the earth (with gratitude)
  • Using the glass funnel, pour the water into the glass bottle until it is half full. Fill the bottle to the top with the alcohol.

This is the “mother essence” or “mother tincture,’’ and it is from this bottle that the drops will be taken to make the “stock bottle.”
Once back inside, take seven drops from the mother tincture and put them into a bottle (20 ml. bottle).  Fill the bottle with alcohol. This is the stock bottle. It is from this bottle that the remedy is made. Put two to seven drops into a small dropper bottle and fill with alcohol. Label the bottle.  If you have a lot of mother essence left over, you may create more stock bottles or return the mother essence back to the earth (with gratitude).

Dosages:

I recommend clients to take a couple of drops in water, or directly under the tongue, when they think about it, preferably as far away from meals as possible. Many people carry the small dropper bottle with them at first and take the essences regularly.  When they start to forget, it is usually because the essence has done its job, and there is less need for it.  However, as their action is subtle, I do try and encourage clients to take essences for at least twenty-one days, and depending on the issues being dealt with, for up to three months.

If you opt to use the essence directly on your skin or spray on specific areas in your home.  I recommend replacing the alcohol with vegetable glycerin.

Why is the Essence Diluted So Much?

Flower essences are a healing modality where “less is more.” The more dilute the physical components of these preparations become, the more the soul is revealed. They become more powerful in their smallness. While many people choose to dose directly from the stock bottle, those who have a sensitivity to alcohol have found the dilution into a dosage bottle to be particularly valuable. In fact, those who are wishing to stay away from alcohol (those with adrenal dysfunction, liver disease or alcoholism) might forgo the alcohol in the dosage bottle altogether or replace it with the same amount of vinegar.

Flower Essence Ideas for Balancing Chakras

Root Chakra - Red Rose
Sacral Chakra - Daisy
Solar Plexus - Marigold
Heart Chakra - Hibiscus
Throat - Eucalyptus
Third Eye - Lavender
Crown - Lily of The Valley

Note:  When preparing an essence to apply to the skin or use as a spray, preserve with glycerin instead of alcohol.  You may add essential oils which correspond with the particular chakra or flower you are using.  I personally prefer Lavender Essential Oil, regardless of which flower I use.  Lavender EO balances all the chakras, activates Clairvoyance, promotes a strong sense of inner peace, helps to free the whole from the feelings and energies of fear, stress, and worry and promotes restful sleep. You may use this spray on clothing, furniture, pet bedding.
